FAQs
Totem is a mission-driven Bitcoin treasury that buys land and removes it from the market forever. We exist to protect the world’s most finite resource, with the world’s most finite asset. Bitcoin.
What is the Totem Earth Trust?
Bitcoin is incorruptible, decentralized,
and finite. Fiat currencies inflate,
degrade, and enable the destruction of
land through reckless incentives. Bitcoin
ensures our mission is financially
sovereign and globally accountable.
Why only Bitcoin?
Totem is structured as a conservation trust. Land is held in legally binding trusts with no resale clauses. The Bitcoin treasury is public, multi-signature, and restricted by charter to be used only for acquiring and protecting land. No individual profits. No one can withdraw. This is not wealth. It is a vault for the Earth.
Who controls the land and the Bitcoin treasury?
Most land trusts rely on fiat fundraising, government grants, and legal loopholes that can fail over time. Totem is funded entirely in Bitcoin and structured to reject all forms of monetization. We don’t conserve land to manage it, we conserve land to protect it from everyone, including ourselves.
What makes Totem different from traditional
land trusts?
All land is held under legally recognized
conservation trusts with strict usage
protections. In select cases, land may be
co-custodied with indigenous or local
communities for added resilience. Our
structure is slow, boring, and hard to
dismantle—just like Bitcoin.
What if governments try to seize or regulate
Totem land?
Yes. We are developing a proposal
process for individuals, communities, or
indigenous groups to nominate land for
acquisition. Proposals must include
ecological or cultural value and must
meet our non-monetization criteria.
Can I propose land for Totem to protect?
All donations are received in Bitcoin and
remain in Bitcoin. Totem does not
convert to fiat or speculate with treasury
funds. Every satoshi is traceable on-
chain, and treasury addresses are public.
We only spend BTC to acquire land or
protect it—never for salaries, marketing,
or growth. This is not charity. This is
defense.
How are Bitcoin donations used—and how can I
be sure they’re not spent or misused?
Totem is post-capitalist in purpose and pre-political in spirit. We simply refuse to play by rules that commodify the Earth. We do not ask for permission to protect land, and we do not participate in markets that destroy it. Our allegiance is to land and time, not politics.
Is Totem anti-capitalist or anti-government?
